Beatitudes
Didache, written around 95 AD, is a compilation of the teachings of the 12 apostles used for instruction for those interested in becoming Christians. While this document is not part of the canon of sacred scripture, it is very much respected by the Church as a summary of the teachings of the very first Christians. Topics such as abortion and fasting are discussed, among many other topics.
The Didache--Its Jewish Sources and its Place in Early Judaism and Christianity by Huub van de Dandt & David Flusser
Protoevangelium of James This apocryphal book has a lot of credibility among early Church Fathers but was not approved for liturgical use (mass) and therefore did not become part of the canon of sacred scripture. However, its teachings are useful and insightful as a means of explaining early Christianity, Mary's early life, who Joseph was, and who the brethren of Jesus are. There is no Church approval or disapproval of this document's accuracy in historical facts.
